Capstone

My fellowship project, HeardandRecognized, had the primary objective is to systematically change and create better, sustainable pathways on how society deals with sexual/gender violence within all institutions. It focuses on the protection of students within K-12 institutions and higher education institutions. The goal is to create a safe environment for students to succeed without fearing the environment they are placed in. There are three specific goals that were planned to be achieve. The first goal is to partner with a local school and provide specific resources for students that are undergoing this issue. Through this application, I measured their success is through the emotional well-being and overall health of the student. The second goal was to create events in different K-12 institutions that are specifically aimed towards administration in order to be better informed on the proper reaction and steps to take. The success of this is determined by administrative change to the method of how institutions carry on cases of sexual assault. The third goal is to create a partnership with academic scholars and legislators in Miami Dade. In retrospect, my goal is to formulate an organization, HeardandRecognized, to tackle these issues at a much broader level.
